After completing his degrees in law and criminology, Ben Meijs worked at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and the University of Southern California in Los Angeles from September 1980 until October 1981, after which he worked at Leiden University until January 1983.
After beginning his law practice, he worked as counsel to companies, institutions and governments, particularly in the areas of company law and insolvency law. His advice includes entering into and terminating partnerships and the structuring and restructuring of companies. He has also been involved in a large number of mergers and acquisitions. Mr Meijs has a great deal of experience with editing complex contracts and often acts as an advisor in contract negotiations. He is particularly interested in international cases with cross-border aspects.
Mr Meijs is also an insolvency law specialist. Since 1983 he has regularly acted as an administrator in suspensions of payment and as an official receiver in bankruptcies. He also regularly advises shareholders, managing directors, supervisory directors and creditors of companies suffering financial setbacks (permanent or temporary).
He completed the Grotius Academy training in Insolvency Law and the specialised Insolad training in Financial Economics for Receivers. Since 1996, he has been a member of the Dutch Association for Insolvency Law Lawyers [Insolad]. Ben Meijs is fluent in spoken and written English and German.

Dimitry Aertssen specialises in insolvency law and company law. He has served many times as an administrator in suspensions of payment and as an official receiver in bankruptcies, and he advises companies, as well as their shareholders and boards of directors, regarding restructurings in the context of directors’ and officers’ liability.

Nico van der Peet is a member of our firm’s Company and Insolvency Law section. He specialises in company and corporate law, civil procedure issues and attachment and execution rights. His clients in these fields include companies, institutions and governments. He also counsels shareholders, managing directors and supervisory directors, either collectively or as individuals. His practice ranges from starting up new companies to selling or liquidating companies. Restructurings, stakeholdings and the termination of partnerships may also be involved.
